The annual running of the Winter Finals at Willowbank Raceway proved to be a most interesting event with just short of 170 entries and several top runners in their respective classes going head to head in deciding who will be crowned Track Champion. Conditions for the day were comparable to that of the Winter Nationals just one month prior, seeing typical track conditions for this time of year at Willowbank. In other words, damn cold!
Highlights for the day that were seen, was the attendance of several Group One Teams coming out and doing some testing, giving race fans a treat seeing cars of this caliber run. More so a treat, was seeing the Nitro Funny Car of the Bailey Brothers sporting a new paint scheme, naming the car “Chemical Warfare.” It laid down an awesome looking half pass with all candles lit for the most part rolling through to record a 6.57 and running 192 mph to half track.
Steve Reed in the Top Alcohol Funny Car also made a pair of runs, recording a clean 6.00 @ 233 mph in the first test session then a storming straight and hard charging 5.91 @ 239 mph, this run being oh so close to his best time at the Winter Nationals. Whatever the team have done to the car it certainly seems to be working.
The Top Alcohol Altered of Michael Harvey made a number of test passes, returning a personal best of 6.76 @ 191 mph, showing that this team is getting their combination sorted and should start to peel the tenths off the ET in good time.
Tony Wedlock and the new Pro Stock team of Tucker and Galea were looking to test their cars out in a first session match race, seeing Wedlock return a 7.43 @ 182 mph and the Tucker and Galea car running a 7.51 @ 181 mph. making this the best runs the pair made for the day.
